Advocate™ FAQs
Use of the product may result in transient pruritus in dogs. On rare occasions greasy hair, erythema and vomiting can occur. These signs disappear without further treatment. The product may, in rare cases, cause local hypersensitivity reactions. If the animal licks the application site after treatment, neurological signs (most of which are transient) may be observed in very rare cases.
The active ingredients in Advocate™ are:
- Imidacloprid
- Moxidectin
Unlike oral treatments (like chewable tablets) that require the medication to be absorbed into your dog’s bloodstream, the active ingredient in Advocate™ that kills fleas, imidacloprid, spreads through your dog’s lipid (oily/fatty) layer of the skin and fur, killing fleas on contact, so they don’t need to bite your dog to be killed. The other active ingredient, moxidectin, is rapidly absorbed into your dog’s bloodstream and distributed around the body, killing heartworm larvae, oesophageal worms, intestinal worms (hookworms, roundworms, whipworm) and mites.
Advocate™ protects against fleas, heartworm, oesophageal worm, intestinal worms (including larval, immature and adult stages of hookworms and roundworms; adult whipworm), mites and lice. Advocate™ also aids in the prevention of flea tapeworm.
The active ingredient, imidacloprid, spreads across your dog’s coat within 12-24 hours, killing fleas1. After this, and with monthly use, re-infesting fleas stop biting within 3-5 minutes and are killed within 1 hour1. The moxidectin component, which is effective internally against heartworms and worms, rapidly enters the skin and has been demonstrated to kill adult hookworms within 24 hours2.
One treatment protects your dog for one month.
